Gehani’s collection of plays – Ta khwaban Jo Chha Thindo (What will happen to our dreams), was published in 2009 and has won the prestigious Sahitya Akademi Award in 2011. These plays showcase Gehani’s dreams of promoting cross-cultural communication between the Sindhi’s of India and Pakistan, further promoting the Sindhi Language and bringing Sindhi-ism to the forefront.
Mohan Gehani, the famous Sindhi writer, poet and translator has served the Sindhi community and literature in multiple ways. He feels that while the business class moved to India after partition, the other side of the border is where the treasure trove of Sindhi culture exists. It is this yearning for his roots that he has bottled into the beautiful, award winning collection of plays – a representation of home, in words.
A passing breeze –
Leaves fall from trees,
Silent, haphazard,
Meaningless.
I try to give them meaning,
See dreams strewn all around.
I hang them
On the branches
of a tree called Hope.
